My husband is obsessed with smoothies. He loves them, would drink them everyday if he could. It can get pretty freaking expensive! The frozen smoothie packages at the store are about 2.50 a package with two servings per pack. I’m not even going into the cost of “Smoothie King” smoothies, what a ripoff!
So, I decided I was going to find a way to feed my husbands addiction without breaking the bank and I think I figured it out during my Kroger trip this morning.
My husband like strawberry and banana smoothies, so while I was making my way through the produce section I saw this:
Perfect! I decided that I would buy two of the tubs of organic strawberries and some very ripe bananas (still really good).
Then I cut the strawberries in half and sliced the bananas then placed them in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with waxed freezer paper. Next you will want to place them in the freezer for a good two hours or more.
Once the bits are nice and frozen, mix them together and Ta Da, smoothie mix. Two tubs of strawberries and five medium bananas made a one gallon freezer bag of mix. The fruit cost me $5.78 and we can get about 8-10 medium smoothies from it. Below is the recipe we use from Cooks.com
10 oz fresh strawberries, stems removed
2 ripe bananas
3 tablespoons sugar or honey
1 cup ice cubes
3/4 cup milk, yogurt, kefir or coconut water
